The cooler weather is here and it get dark so early now that it’s about that time that we start spending more time inside than out. With that starts the search of what to do with busy toddlers to keep them occupied and out of trouble. I am constantly trying to figure out what to do with Sebastian that keeps his attention and that he enjoys. He is all of the sudden into arts and crafts, he loves to color and “paint” with shaving cream so I thought paint would be fun, but I wasn’t quite ready to commit to the mess of finger paints. So we tried the next best thing – bath paints!
These are SUPER easy to make and you can use stuff that you already have on hand, so to me that equals a perfect rainy or cold day project.
You will need:
- 2 Tablespoons of Cornstarch or flour (a little less flour if you go that route)
- 1/4 Cup of Baby shampo0
- Food coloring (I used about 8 drops of each color and they turned out pretty vibrant, so use your best judgment)
Mix together the cornstarch and baby shampoo in each container and then add food coloring to get the desired color. I mixed them in a muffin tin, it kept them all in one container and was easy to wash after.
Yup people – it’s that easy! Sebastian helped me make them and then we went up to the bath tub to have some fun.
At first he tried to taste them, but after doing that a couple times he decided they weren’t very good. It was funny to watch his expression after eating the soap, but hey, ya got to learn at some point that not everything is edible.
I expected him to go to town with them a little quicker than he did. He wasn’t quite sure what exactly to do with them so I rolled up my sleeves and played along. He loved painting his belly and the wall for a bit, and thought it was funny to paint mommy. once he was finished playing it was easy to make a bath out of it since he was already covered in soap. Just be careful because the paints do make the tub a little slippery. It was a fun and easy activity to do with him and sneak in a bath at the same time.
What do you like to do with your toddler when the weather is yucky out or starts to get chilly? I’m always looking for new activites to do with the boys, I’d love for you to leave some suggestions in the comments!
